The first image from Paul WS Anderson's Pompeii has been revealed... and it's ab-tastic. (Apologies. That sounded much better in our heads.)
The image shows Kit Harington – the 26-year-old star of fantasy series Game of Thrones – looking menacing while walking out into the rain. But we are a long way from The Wall, the actor has well and truly shed his Night Watch cloak – and it seems Jon Snow has been pumping some iron since we last saw him in the light of that waterfall... We don't quite know where to look.
Harington plays slave-turned-gladiator Milo, who falls for Emily Browning's Cassia in the historical film set in the days leading up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, the volcano that devastated the city of Pompeii.
Of his character, Harington told Entertainment Weekly: "He’s a good swordsman and good fighter, and quite brooding, which is all of what Jon Snow is, and he doesn’t really speak a hell of a lot, even though I’ve got a lot of screen time. He kind of keeps himself to himself. The differences, and why I was interested in the role, were that Milo is completely set on vengeance rather than honor and justice. He’s an angry, angry man who doesn’t care what he does. For a large part of the film, he’s driven by pure rage.”
Also starring Kiefer Sutherland and Carrie-Anne Moss, the film is set for release in February 2014.
