Filming for new Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) and Vanessa Redgrave (Call the Midwife) BBC drama The Thirteenth Tale has begun at the Burton Agnes Hall stately home in Driffield, Yorkshire.

Based on Diane Setterfield's novel of the same name, this gothic suspense drama is set in the modern day, but has flashbacks to the '40s. We follow the central characters Margaret Lea (Colman), a bookstore owner’s daughter, and a famous novelist named Vida Winter (Redgrave), who asks Margaret to help her write her biography, and reveals the shocking events of her past.

The historic Red Drawing Room, in Burton Agnes Hall, provides the perfect backdrop for the tale. Two more Yorkshire locations have also been selected for filming.

Ben Stephenson, the commissioning controller of BBC Drama, is expecting great things from The Thirteen Tale, which is produced by the same company that made the Harry Potter movies and written by Christopher Hampton (Atonement, Dangerous Liaisons)

"[ The Thirteen Tale ] illustrates BBC drama at its best,” explained Stephenson. “Attracting the highest calibre of talent and making the most ambitious content possible".

The 90-minte film is scheduled for release during the Christmas season 2013.
