Thought series three of Downton Abbey, with its shocks, scandals and squabbles, was good? Forget it. Apparently series four of the hit ITV drama is even better…
Brendan Coyle, the actor who plays loyal valet, loving husband and ex-con John Bates, has told RadioTimes.com that “Series four is phenomenal.”
Speaking to us about the upcoming series, Coyle went on: “I’m going to stick my neck out and say this is our best series. Series four is absolutely phenomenal. It’s a riot.”
Downton Abbey, which has become a firm fan favourite since it first aired in 2010, has recently taken America, becoming a huge hit across the pond too. But that doesn’t mean the show’s producers or writer Julian Fellowes are planning to rest on their laurels.
“Instead of cutting back and cutting back and saying ‘we have a success now’ the producers want to expand,” revealed Coyle. “Not just in terms of bringing in more characters, but the variety of characters and the situations they find themselves in. It’s not going to last forever but we’re all enjoying it very much. Like I say, this is our best series…”
WE CANNOT CONTAIN OUR EXCITEMENT.
