With Matt Smith revealing over the weekend that he is set to hang up his Time Lord's bow tie, the question "Doctor Who?" has never seemed more relevant.
It may have only been a matter of hours since the 30-year-old shared his news, but the internet is already awash with speculation about who will be the next actor to appear from behind the Tardis' blue doors. But what we really want to know is who YOU think should play the next Doctor. We've rounded up the rumours (and there are plenty of them) to help you make your decision...
Shakespearean actor Rory Kinnear and Law and Order's Ben Daniels appear to be early favourites but there are plenty of other famous faces doing the rounds too. Namely, Homeland's David Harewood, Skyfall's Ben Whishaw, Dancing on the Edge's Chiwetel Ejiofor, Luther's Idris Elba, The Fall's Jamie Dornan and Being Human's Damien Molony. Even Jenna-Louise Coleman's current boyfriend, Game of Thrones star Richard Madden has been mentioned (talk about on-screen chemistry!), as has Stephen Mangan who appears to have nominated himself via a mysterious tweet of him sporting a Doctor Who scarf.
But perhaps you think Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch or Merlin's Colin Morgan is the right man for the job? Or maybe you'd prefer it if the Doctor aged a little this time. Could Last Tango in Halifax's Derek Jacobi be the Time Lord for you?
Any firm believers out there that the next doctor should be a woman? How about Broadchurch's Olivia Colman, Helen Mirren, Miranda Hart or Sue Perkins?
