Former first lady Hillary Clinton is to have her early years turned into a biopic… and actresses are lining up to take on the role.
Among those apparently eager to star as Mrs Clinton are Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Amanda Seyfried and Jessica Chastain. Director James Ponsoldt told The Sunday Times: “They’re all wonderful actresses. We’re very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We’re in an enviable position.”
Apparently entitled Rodham, the film is due to be released in 2016 – around the time of the presidential election which, according to reports, Clinton may be a candidate in.
Ponsoldt added: “Regardless of people’s political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don’t find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive. I want a wonderful actress who could embody that.” There are already rumblings of Rodham popping up at the Oscars. No pressure or anything.
The script has already attracted some attention around its “racier” scenes, too. After making the “Black List” (Hollywood’s collection of best unrealised scripts), a few scenes were leaked.
But scriptwriter Young-Il Kim has defended his work, saying: “I didn’t write 50 Shades of Rodham, as some news outlets are suggesting. I am a boring prude with little imagination.”
Will the film include a few naughty sex scenes, then? Kim isn’t sure: “It’s an evolving process, so I don’t know. She was an attractive 26-year-old with an amazing future. And that’s our thematic focus.” We’ll get the popcorn.
