Doctor Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman is to host an American version of Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes.

Barrowman – now known to US audiences as the villain Malcolm Merlyn in Arrow, a drama whose title Barrowman incorporates into his own name – will front a new ABC series in which five celebrities each week impersonate an iconic performer, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The show is to be called Sing Your Face Off.

Among the judges on SYFO, which is expected to debut this summer, will be 80s popstrel Debbie Gibson and former Saturday Night Live cast member Darrell Hammond. Comedian Jon Lovitz is one of the celebs slated to take to the stage.

The original British version of Stars in Their Eyes, which initially featured members of the public impersonating their singing idols, was first shown on ITV in 1990 and ran until 2006, with hosts Leslie Crowther, Matthew Kelly, Davina McCall and Cat Deeley.
