Ian Beale’s son Peter is to return to Albert Square to be reunited with his dad, twin sister Lucy and brother Bobby.
The character was last seen in December 2010 when he fled in disgust after discovering that Ian had been cheating on then wife Jane with Glenda Mitchell.
Newcomer Ben Hardy, who is taking over the role of Peter from Thomas Law, said of his appointment: “I’m really excited to be joining the fantastic cast of Eastenders – a show which my family have watched for years. I can’t wait to step into the shoes of a character with so much history and am looking forward to getting stuck in.”
Lorraine Newman, executive producer added: “Ben’s a wonderful addition to the EastEnders cast and I am sure he will be popular with the audience. Having Peter back in the Beale fold helps cement the next generation of the Beale clan, a family who exist at the true heart of the show. Ian’s wonderful relationship with Denise and the inclusion of Lucy, Peter and Bobby in the household with reinvigorate the clan with vibrancy and energy. I am really looking forward to seeing them all together on screen.”
Since his exit from Walford, Peter has been in Devon with his maternal grandmother, after escaping to live with Lucy and their half-sister Cindy Jr. Although blessed with a life of sun, sea and surf, Peter still found that his relationship with sister Lucy was to sour when he started seeing her best friend Leanne.
Lucy called time on Devon and returned to the Square in 2012. But when the prodigal son returns in July – grown-up, confident and an easy match for his sister – just how delighted will she be to see him?
