The Voice UK will return to BBC1 for its second series on 30 March – the same Saturday night as series seven of Doctor Who resumes with an Easter special.
Jessie J, Tom Jones, Danny O'Donoghue and will.i.am all reprise their roles as coaches for the second series, which introduces changes to the format later in the run: losing contestants in the battle rounds can now be reinstated if the coaches who initially rejected them choose to "steal" them.
Each coach is to acquire one extra contestant in this way to make seven apiece for the new "knockout" stage, during which each coach will whittle their team down to three acts. This will create a final 12 who will compete in a shortened live phase.
Series one of The Voice UK was initially a huge ratings hit for BBC1 last year, but lost momentum during its live phase amid criticism it was not different enough to other talent shows. The series was eventually won by Leanne Mitchell, who has struggled to find chart success.
