Ellen Love will not appear in series two of Mr Selfridge

Actress Zoe Tapper confirms on Twitter that she will not be part of the ITV period drama's returning cast

She got one over on her former fling Harry in last night’s series finale of Mr Selfridge but Ellen Love will not be featuring in series two of the period drama.

Actress Zoe Tapper – who portrayed the showgirl-turned-serious-actress – has confirmed on Twitter that she will not be returning to the role, stating that, “Ellen was only ever a one series gal”.

After enjoying a brief affair with Selfridges mastermind Harry (played by Jeremy Piven), Ellen found herself cast aside when her presence was made aware to the businessman’s wife, Rose. After suffering a breakdown and an attempted suicide attempt, Ellen reinvented herself towards the end of the series – with the help of journalist and friend, Frank Edwards – in a bid to move into serious acting.

In the final episode of the first series, Ellen’s debut play was attended by King Edward VII himself, and featured scenes that ridiculed Harry and his family. The audience were in fits of laughter and applause at the gag but Harry – and the Royal Family – were far from impressed by the cast’s antics.

With Ellen now out of the picture, it remains to be seen whether Harry’s wife Rose will stick by his side and return from her recent trip back to Chicago. Check out our predictions for series two – and make some of your own – here
