French movie Amour has won the Oscar for best foreign language film. 

Starring Michael Haneke and Emmanuelle Riva, the film focuses on elderly couple - Anna and Georges - who have to deal with the former's failing health after she suffers a stroke which paralyses one half of her body. 

The film has enjoyed a successful awards season with Riva beating off competition from favourites Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain to take home the best actress award at the Bafta awards earlier this month - making her the oldest recipient of an award from the British Academy. Riva is also nominated for best actress at tonight's awards ceremony.

Amour triumphed over fellow nominees Kon-Tiki, No, War Witch and A Royal Affair to collect the award from presenters Jennifer Garner and Jessica Chastain during tonight's ceremony.
