Ben Affleck’s Argo has walked away with the 2013 Oscar for best picture.
The film, which was directed and produced by Affleck, has dominated the awards ceremonies this year, picking up, among others, the Bafta, Golden Globe, Critics Choice and Producers Guild of America awards for best film.
Argo has caused something of a controversy after director Ben Affleck failed to be nominated by the Academy for best director, despite winning multiple awards during this year’s season – including wins at the Directors Guild of America, Golden Globe and Bafta ceremonies.
The last time the winner of best picture and best director didn’t match up was in 2005 when Crash won best picture and Ang Lee took home best director for his film Brokeback Mountain.
