The Ridley Scott-directed pilot has announced its first cast member, Matthew Goode, who will play Bernd Koch, the pope's closest confidante, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Dancing on the Edge and Watchmen actor's character occupies a powerful position within the inner-circle of The Vatican and the upcoming thriller will focus on the modern-day spirituality, power and politics in Rome.
The hour-long script has been penned by House's Paul Attanasio and is set to explore the relationships, rivalries and mysteries within the Catholic church. It will be executive produced by Scott, Attanasio and David Zucker (The Good Wife) with shooting expected to commence soon.
