The mysterious "Mrs P" – wife of former Dragons' Den investor Theo Paphitis – has been named the most popular choice to replace him on the show, beating off stiff competition from Virgin boss Richard Branson.
Following Theo's announcement on Thursday that he would not be returning to the BBC2 business series, RadioTimes.com ran a poll asking who should be his successor. Over 1,000 people voted, with Paphitis and his son Alex rallying support via Twitter after his wife moved into an early second place behind Branson.
Mrs P is Theo's affectionate name for his wife Debbie, never seen by viewers but whose wisdom he regularly cites on Dragons' Den during pitches from aspiring business partners.
According to her son Alex, Mrs P was delighted by the news of her win, saying "I'm so excited. This is the first thing I've won since the fun run Clapham Common!"
Mrs P garnered almost 44% of the vote, ahead of Richard Branson's 34%. Successful Dragons' Den entrepreneur Levi Roots came third with 7%, followed by Innocent Smoothies boss Richard Reed, British businessman Philip Green, online Dragon Julie Meyer and telecoms magnate John Caudwell, a selection of candidates nominated by RadioTimes.com writers.
