Al Pacino stars as Phil Spector in this trailer for a new HBO biopic about the controversial record producer.

Famed for his ‘Wall of Sound’ production technique, Spector oversaw more than 25 top 40 hits in the early 1960s for girl groups like The Ronettes and, in his time, worked with the likes of The Beatles, The Ramones and Leonard Cohen.

But Spector also had a darker side and the producer was convicted of second-degree murder in 2009. He’s currently serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life.

HBO’s Spector biopic, which has been written and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, looks like it’ll be a scintillating courtroom drama bolstered by a terrific soundtrack and some truly memorable dialogue:

Featuring Helen Mirren, Jeffrey Tambor and Jenn Lyon among its cast, Phil Spector will air on HBO in the States on Sunday 24 March.
