Samia Ghadie and skating partner Sylvain Longchambon can breathe a sigh of relief as the romance spotlight has briefly turned on judge and former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts. In a brief, but gossip-filled, interview with This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, it was suggested Declan Donnelly (of Ant and Dec fame) has a crush on her after she appeared on this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Having only just started to watch the show back herself, Ashley joked, “I can see where people are coming from,” but added, “They did do some funny, cheeky stuff, but I think they were just having fun.” Ashley also promptly denied any links with the DOI skaters saying, “I’ve been professional.”
With Holly as a former DOI presenter and Phillip one of the current ones, Ashley stood little chance of avoiding the tough questions, as the pair knew exactly which buttons to push. Joking that Ashley was stuck as a kind of buffer between feuding judges Jason Gardiner and Karen Barber, Holly asked if she was shocked by some of the things Jason said. Ashley, who does appear to have caught on to a bit of the Jason bug after describing Joe Pasquale’s arabesques as more like a dog weeing, diplomatically replied, “They definitely have different ways of communicating their opinions. With Jason there’s no filter, not one at all, but that’s just Jason.” Although Ashley did admit she thought things had taken a turn for the worse during Sunday’s show saying, “Karen did throw out some sort of hand gesture and I was like, uh oh.”
Furious on the ice panel he may so often be, Jason has continued in his quest to be nicer to the celeb skaters on Twitter. Turning his attention this week to Joe, Jason tweeted a picture of a look-a-like Lego figure with the tag #lovejoepasquale. Perhaps it reminds him of the way Joe moves on the ice? Sorry, that’s mean, #lovejoepasquale – all better now, right?
X Factor star Shayne Ward appears to have had his cage rattled this week, after it was claimed he has been lying about never skating until he met Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. After the Sun newspaper posted a snap of Shayne on the ice with X Factor alumni Chico and Andy Abraham he tweeted, “The Sun have printed a photo of me on the ice with Chico and Andy from 2005 which apparently proves that I’ve skated before. Standing on the ice for a photo (and being pushed along in a conga!) is very different to skating.” Not to worry Shayne (putting on our best Jason voice), “Bring that aggression to the ice.” Or just don’t lie. Come on, Pinocchio taught us all that years ago.
Talking of aggressive, if such a word could be used about the skating legend that is Jayne Torvill, she has somewhat horridly revealed who the worst skater of the show is. No Jason, she doesn’t think it’s Beth Tweddle, but poor Todd Carty who isn’t even in the show this year. Jayne told the Mirror, “Well, Todd Carty obviously, that goes down in history”. Give the guy a break. OK, he was more useless than a chocolate tea pot and would have had better luck skating through treacle than on ice, but we weren’t going to bring it up, Jayne, jeez.
Anthea Turner, who was voted out during Sunday’s show, has also given the game away on what this Sunday’s ‘Leveller’ task will be. Apparently the skaters are going to have to skate on their own. Boy, how do they think them up?
