David Witts has been offering insights into what life is like as a new kid on the block on EastEnders:
“When I stepped out on set for the first time, it was very surreal,” the actor said.
Witts, who was speaking backstage at the NTAs after picking up the award for Best Newcomer, also revealed which Walford stalwart left him starstruck: “June Brown! I only met her recently. And I was like ‘wow, it’s June Brown.’ It’s great.”
The actor, who also confessed to not owning a TV licence prior to appearing on the BBC1 soap, said that he didn’t “buy into celebrity” and certainly didn’t go into the profession in order to win prizes:
“You don’t come into acting to win awards. You come into acting because you want to work.”
Witts, who made his debut on EastEnders in June 2012, saw off competition at London’s O2 Arena from Emmerdale’s Liam Fox, Coronation Street actress Natalie Gumede and Joseph Thompson.
