Beyonce’s performance of the American National Anthem at President Barack Obama’s inauguration yesterday was not performed live, according to reports.

"We did pre-record it and it was Beyoncé’s decision at the last minute to go with the pre-recorded version.” A spokesperson for the Marine Corp Band told The Times.

“We pre-recorded all music as a matter of course and have done since time immemorial,” she said. “This is our 54th inauguration…There is no question of there not being any music – it’s not because the performer cannot do it.”

Although in the past musicians, including Yo Yo Ma in 2008, have used pre-recorded tracks due to bad weather, it is unusual for a vocalist not to perform live.
