The Hunger Games dominates the People's Choice Awards with five wins

The Hunger Games dominated last night's People's Choice Awards, winning five gongs.

Based on the international bestseller by Suzanne Collins, the film was named Favourite Movie, Favourite Action Movie and Favourite Movie Franchise, while actress Jennifer Lawrence, who plays the lead Katniss Everdeen, won Favourite Movie Actress and Favourite Face of Heroism. Lawrence also took home the award for Favourite Onscreen Chemistry with her co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson

The Hunger Games film is part of a trilogy, the second of which - Catching Fire - is currently in production and set for release in November 2013. 

Katy Perry was another of the night's big winners - taking home three awards for Favourite Pop Artist, Favourite Music Video and Favourite Music Fan Following - while British actress and Harry Potter star Emma Watson was awarded Favourite Dramatic Movie Actress. 

The New Normal, which kicks off in the UK tonight on E4, also won Favourite New TV Comedy at the awards ceremony which took place in Los Angeles on Wednesday. 

The winners of the People's Choice Awards are voted for by the public.
