Dexter Hartman, the son of Cora’s long-lost daughter Ava (Clare Perkins), arrives on EastEnders in January 2013 only to immediately get on the wrong side of Jay (Jamie Borthwick).
Dexter, played by Khali Best, will be seen carrying a photograph of the Branning family and making an impression on Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) when he hands her some money he tells her she’s dropped. But a riled Jay claims not to trust this newcomer and angry words are soon exchanged in the café.
But, as executive producer Lorraine Newman explains, that initial animosity won’t last long: “Dexter is a force of nature: cheeky forthright, confident but highly protective of his mum and vice versa. He’ll work at the Arches and be a great mate for Jay and Lola. I am sure he’ll be hugely popular.”
Actor Khali Best says of his role: “I am delighted to be joining the cast of EastEnders. Working with such great actors so early in my career is an amazing opportunity. I am really excited to see what the writers have in store.”
