It's complicated – that much is clear. Benedict Cumberbatch says his Star Trek: Into Darkness character John Harrison "is a terrorist" but he and co-star Alice Eve agree there's a bit more to it than that.

Eve – who plays canonical Trek character Dr Carol Marcus in the upcoming sci-fi movie sequel – references differing "moral structures" and "ethical layers and quandries," while Cumberbatch says "the grey moral areas are excacerbated by the metaphor of Star Fleet being a super power. What Harrison brings into the world is the alternative argument of the underdog."

"Fascinating," as Mr Spock would say – and lots of big explosions too...
