"This is the season that we have been anticipating from the beginning," says Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff in a new on-set teaser trailer for series three of Game of Thrones.

The fantasy drama returns at the end of March (with an expected UK premiere date of 1 April on Sky Atlantic) and star Emilia Clarke – aka Daenerys Targaryan – says "The game's been upped."

The two-minute clip also features commentary from Benioff's creative partner DB Weiss and Clarke's co-stars Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Richard Madden (Robb Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), and provides glimpses of new characters and locations.

Game of Thrones is based on the epic series of novels by George RR Martin, with series three expected to combine the events of books three and four, which take place concurrently.
