His infamous purple-and-yellow "Quality Street" outfit from Saturday night's X Factor is still warm, but Rylan Clark has already found alternative employment. The primped Essex beanpole, who was voted off The X Factor at the weekend, will be on the Daybreak sofa next week as the show's temporary showbiz reporter.
Clark - whose best-known appearance on a sofa to date was his screamingly tearful reaction to being put through to the live shows by Nicole Scherzinger - will try to keep a lid on his emotions as he fills in for Richard Arnold, who's taking some time off to recover from Strictly Come Dancing.
"I can't believe it," Clark said. "I only left X Factor a week ago and now I'm joining Lorraine and Aled on the Daybreak sofa. I'm a massive fan of the show and it's going to be so much fun sharing all the showbiz news and gossip with the nation each morning.
"I'm looking forward to keeping Richard’s seat warm while he’s swanning off on holiday, but I won't be asking for any dancing tips just yet!"
Arnold himself said, with only the vaguest hint of terror that the temporary appointment might become permanent: "The wonderful thing about this hurly-burly business we call show is that you know ultimately you will one day be replaced by someone younger, thinner and in this case much taller than you. I wish Rylan all the best in his new role at Daybreak."
Clark debuts on Daybreak on Monday 3 December at 7:50am.
