Another tearful weekend for Victoria Pendleton ended with the Olympic cyclist bowing out of Strictly Come Dancing following a dance-off against Michael Vaughan.
Following the judge's verdicts on Saturday night, and the result of the viewer votes, Pendleton and her partner Brendan Cole found themselves in the bottom two for the third week, along with Vaughan and Natalie Lowe.
And after Pendleton's Sunday-night salsa to Robbie Williams's Candy, and Vaughan's Argentine tango to Bust Your Windows by Jazmine Sullivan, the judges voted unanimously to save the former England cricketer.
Craig Revel Horwood praised Vaughan and Lowe's performance, saying: “Well this couple completely smashed it and I thought they were fantastic – Michael and Natalie,” while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli also preferred Vaughan's performance to Pendleton's.
Following her defeat, Pendleton said she had "loved every second" of her time on the show: "It pushed me totally out of my comfort zone which I think you really need to do in life," she said.
She also praised her dance partner and the backstage staff: "Brendan has been fantastic, the people behind the scenes here – the hair, make up, I love the costumes. It’s been a fantastic experience.”
Cole called his time with Pendleton “an emotional roller-coaster," adding "she has been a diamond to work with."
