The Killing USA may live on despite being officially cancelled by its studio AMC earlier this summer.
Set in Seattle, The Killing USA began in April 2011 and ran for 26 episodes across two seasons, starring Mireille Enos. Based on the hit Danish crime drama Forbrydelsen which starred Sofie Gråbøl as Sarah Lund, the US remake was aired by Channel 4 in the UK.
Critical and popular reception of the American adaptation was lukewarm and the show was cancelled after just two seasons when viewing figures began to plummet across the pond.
However, reports suggest that the series could be set for a third run of episodes. AMC, the channel behind the show, alongside a string of hits including Mad Men and Breaking Bad, are in talks with Netflix to bring The Killing back for a third outing. The deal marks the latest resurrection on the part of Netflix, who have also helped to revive cult comedy Arrested Development as part of their move into producing original content.
AMC declined to comment on the story when contacted by RadioTimes.com. However, the studio behind the series have made no secret of their desire to bring the show back from the dead and even left the possibility of a third outing open during the show’s finale, despite wrapping up the murder mystery which had propelled its two season run.
The original Danish version of The Killing will return to BBC4 this November.
