THE RUMOUR: Following the news that Christopher Maloney is easily winning The X Factor, and then that Simon Cowell wants the programme to undermine him, comes today's hot, fresh, big X Factor story: Christopher Maloney is easily winning The X Factor, with the result that Simon Cowell wants the programme to undermine him. It's almost as if there isn't any news to go in people's X Factor sections at the moment. But wait! For Chris-haters, it's got worse since last time: now he's getting DOUBLE the votes of any other contestant. We've done the maths and, if this continues, Chris could actually win the competition, leading to a Brookstein/McManus/Cardle situation where the champ obviously isn't going to sell any records, and people start to question whether The X Factor is merely a shiny, empty waste of Britain's time.
QUOTE FROM A "SOURCE" WHO PROBABLY DOESN'T EXIST: “Chris is getting double the votes of anyone else. It’s a shame because he’s so sweet. They’re determined to get him kicked off the show. It’s crazy. The show is in a spin and Cowell is really panicking. They will be trying anything now to get people to not like this guy.” (The Sun)
RADIOTIMES.COM TRUTH RATING: 2/5. We're staying firm on this "Christopher is winning easily" thing, no matter how many times people report it, partly because we don't want it to be true and partly because his performances really don't make it plausible. As for making sure Chris leaves, what can the producers do? Dress him poorly? Start adverse rumours about him? Give him ludicrously unappealing songs to sing? They did all those already and he still hasn't been in the bottom two.
