Tonight (10:35pm), BBC1 will screen a Panorama special, Jimmy Savile - What the BBC Knew, featuring a report on the decision by Newsnight editor Peter Rippon to shelve an investigation into the Savile sexual abuse case.
The clips below are excerpts from interviews with Liz MacKean, a reporter on the BBC2 current affairs series, and Newsnight producer Meirion Jones.
MacKean says the programme "failed" the alleged victims she spoke to: "I felt we had a responsibility towards them... we did believe them and so for their stories not to be heard... I felt we’d let them down."
Jones, meanwhile, shares his suprise at the sudden decision to stop the Newsnight investigation: "I was very surprised... we weren’t asked to find more evidence, we weren’t asked to get more people on camera, we were told to stop working on the story."
