Walford legend Dot Branning will return to EastEnders in the new year after the Branning family is blown apart by what show bosses are calling “an explosive Christmas”.
Brown, 85, has been away from our screens since spring when she took a sabbatical to pen her memoirs and present a BBC1 documentary Respect Your Elders.
The character of Dot was last seen in May when, in the wake of Heather Trott’s murder, she decided to have change of scene and visit granddaughter Dotty.
Executive producer Lorraine Newman said of the comeback: "Dot is one of EastEnders' best-loved characters and Albert Square hasn't been the same without her."
June Brown first appeared on EastEnders in June 1985 and has been at the centre of many emotional storylines over the years, most of which have involved Dot's villainous son Nick. This is the longest break that Brown has taken from the soap since her four-year absence between 1993 and 1997.
