New pictures from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy include a face from the past - or should that be the future? - as fans get to see the first still of Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood, aka Frodo Baggins, in the prequel to the original trilogy.
The shots (as first published by Spanish website Cine Marcado) also include more of Bilbo - Frodo's uncle - played by Martin Freeman, plus Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey.
Wood, 30, is likely to make a relatively brief appearance in the trilogy, the first part of which, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is due in UK cinemas on 14 December.
It was announced in July that a third film would be added to what was previously intended as a two-part adaptation - The Desolation of Smaug and There and Back Again are scheduled for release on 13 December 2013 and 18 July 2014, respectively.
The Hobbit's stellar cast also includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett, Evangeline Lilly, Orlando Bloom and Christopher Lee.
