Ryan Gosling, the star of Drive, Crazy Stupid Love and The Notebook, is showcasing his dark side in a new trailer for 2013 film Gangster Squad.
The slick and sexy trailer – which also stars Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin and Giovanna Ribisi – follows the fight of the LAPD to keep Los Angeles free of the East Coast Mafia during the 1940s and 50s.
In the crime thriller, Gosling plays Sergeant Jerry Wooters – a policeman who goes undercover to join the fight against the mafia. The pacy trailer see’s Gosling at his very best as the cool and calm cop, while Sean Penn – whose recent films include Milk and The Tree of Life – is terrifying as gangster Mickey Cohen.
Gangster Squad was originally set for release in September 2012 but – as the film includes a scene where characters shoot at moviegoers through the cinema screen – it was pushed back until 2013 as a reaction to the fatal shooting at a screening of Batman: The Dark Night Rises in Aurora.
The film will be in UK cinemas from 11 January 2013.
