Soap icon Sue Hanson, who for two decades played ‘Miss’ Diane Lawton in Crossroads, will appear in Coronation Street next week as a character called Penny.
Our spoiler pics show Penny arriving in Weatherfield with news of Lewis’s (Nigel Havers) whereabouts following his disappearance while on holiday with Audrey.
Gail and Audrey soon learn that Lewis (or Curtis as he was previously known) once tried to rip Penny off. The disclosure looks set to cause yet more ructions within Audrey’s family and reignite Gail’s suspicions about her mother’s boyfriend.
Hanson, 69, starred in Midlands-based soap Crossroads for 22 years, making her debut in 1966. During her time on the show, Hanson’s character Diane had an illegitimate son Nicky by film actor Frank Adam before marrying and divorcing postman Vince Parker. Diane was controversially killed off in 1987 after suffering a brain haemorrhage in the motel foyer.
