He’s clocked up three decades of service on Emmerdale, but could Alan Turner (Richard Thorp) be heading for a sticky end on the soap’s 40th anniversary?
Bookmakers Ladbrokes have given RadioTimes.com odds of 3/1 that the character will die in the live hour-long episode, which is set to air on Wednesday 17 October at 7pm.
The prediction makes Emmerdale’s longest-serving cast member the frontrunner to depart, with Carl King (Tom Lister) in second place with odds of 4/1 and Betty Eagleton (Paula Tilbrook) and Cameron Murray (Dominic Power) in joint third position at 5/1.
Alan Turner made his debut in March 1982 when he became the manager of NY Estates. Initially, a boozing and bullying figure, he has since mellowed and become a respected part of the village community.
Last month, show bosses revealed that “a well-loved” resident was to meet their maker during the live instalment, although they are currently remaining tight-lipped as regards the identity of the victim.
Series producer Stuart Blackburn said: “We want to avoid speculation as to which character dies, but suffice it to say it will have major, far-reaching repercussions.”
