BBC1 has decided to postpone the final episode of the police drama Good Cop, which was scheduled to be shown at 9pm tonight, because of similarities between its storyline and the recent murder of two police officers in Manchester.

The series, starring Warren Brown and written by Stephen Butchard, was to feature a violent assault on a policewoman.

PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes were shot dead on Tuesday as they investigated a suspected burglary in Hattersley, Greater Manchester.

A BBC1 source said Good Cop was pulled to avoid causing offence and upset to the friends and family of the two deceased officers.

The BBC1 schedule has been updated to include a repeat of family sitcom Outnumbered at 9pm, followed by Have I Got Old News for You at 9.30pm.

A new date for the broadcast of the Good Cop finale has yet to be announced.
