Frozen River – 8.15, Sky Movies Indie

Intense drama about a single mother (Melissa Leo, in an Oscar-nominated performance) who smuggles illegal immigrants from Canada to America in the boot of her car. 

Gladiator – 9.00PM, ITV2

2nd century Roman epic starring Russell Crowe as Maximus Decimus Meridius, a city general who is forced to fight for his life. Directed by Ridley Scott, and co-starring Joaquin Phoenix, Oliver Reed and Derek Jacobi.

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves – 9.00PM, 5Star

Action adventure following Robin of Locksley’s return to England after his imprisonment in the Holy Land. Starring Kevin Costner in the title role.

Land of the Dead – 10.35PM, ITV1

This fourth instalment in George A. Romero’s zombie series sees a group of well-off individuals living in an attractive development that comes under threat from the undead.

Get Shorty – 11.00PM, ITV4

Crime comedy about a loan-shark who journeys to Hollywood to collect a debt from a B-movie director but soon finds himself involved in film production, recruiting an Oscar-winning star to the film-maker's new project.

Arachnophobia – 12:15AM, BBC1

Spiders invade a town and start to bump off the residents in this comedy horror from Frank Marshall. Starring Jeff Daniels and Harley Jane Kozak.
