The Bridge on the River Kwai – 2:50pm, Dave

Second World War Drama in which a British colonel (William Holden) taken captive in a Japanese PoW camp, overcomes resentment to lead his men in the construction of a railway bridge, unaware that the Americans are plotting its destruction.

Alvin and the Chipmunks – 3:15pm, E4

Children’s comedy about an adorable trio of singing chipmunks whose talent provides material for a failing songwriter (Jason Lee). The critters are voiced by Cameron Richardson, Justin Long and Matthew Gray Gubler.

Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl – 6:20pm, BBC1

First instalment in the fantasy adventure franchise, starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. When Elizabeth Swann is kidnapped by pirates aboard The Black Pearl, Will Turner and Captain Jack Sparrow rush to her rescue. 

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – 8:00pm, Sky Movies Premiere

Epic conclusion of the fantasy saga based on the books by J. K. Rowling. The boy wizard's attempts to track down and destroy the remaining Horcruxes lead him back to Hogwarts, where an explosive showdown is about to begin. Daniel Radcliffe leads an all-star cast including Ralph Fiennes, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Alan Rickman.

Mamma Mia! – 10:15pm, ITV2

Musical comedy in which bride-to-be Amanda Seyfried invites three of her mother's ex-boyfriends to her wedding in order to identify her real father. Cast members (including the less tuneful) burst into ABBA classics throughout. Starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Julie Walters and Dominic Cooper.

Before Sunrise – 11:30pm, BBC2

Romantic drama about the romantic encounter between French student Celine (Julie Delpy) and American tourist Jesse (Ethan Hawke) on a train travelling from Budapest to Vienna.
