Elton John will present his own Radio 2 show on Bank Holiday Monday 27 August, showcasing the music that has influenced his long career. The programme will form the climax of a season of programmes on the station dedicated to the singer-songwriter.
The two-hour Elton John Show will be built around a playlist personally selected by John, including the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Amy Winehouse.
Earlier programmes in the special season will include The Trevor Nelson Soul Show: Elton Special; an In Concert special repeating John's Red Piano Show, recorded at London's 02 Arena; and a compilation of John's performances for the BBC throughout his career
Also airing will be a Johnnie Walker documentary about the 1973 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and a retrospective of John's writing for musicals including Billy Elliot and The Lion King, presented by Elaine Paige.
"Working with Sir Elton John has been a real joy and we are delighted to be hosting such a special season of programmes," said Radio 2's Mark Hagen.
"Elton is a real core artist for Radio 2 and an absolute favourite with the listeners, so to have him host a show is a match made in heaven."
Previous Radio 2 Bank Holiday specials have celebrated the Bee Gees and the Beatles.
