Britain loves Doctor Who, but so does America. Tomorrow, Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith will appear on newsstands across the US as the first British show ever to grace the cover of Entertainment Weekly, one of the country's biggest entertainment magazines, boasting a circulation of around 1.7 million.

The issue uncovers the 25 greatest cult TV series from the past 25 years, listing Who among shows such as Arrested Development, Fringe and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And while most of the programmes on the list are American, the British representative has a stateside fan base that continues to grow.

Season six of Doctor Who was the most watched series ever on BBC America -  and also the most downloaded show on US iTunes last year. Meanwhile, Doctor Who is constantly referenced in other US TV, including The Late Late Show, Grey's Anatomy and Community, which features its own regular spoof, Inspector Spacetime.

Inside the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, readers will get a peek at the upcoming seventh season, plus interviews with stars including Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, as well as showrunner Steven Moffat. And even though it's a US magazine, fans in the UK willing to pay the transatlantic postage can buy the issue too, and claim yet another piece of Doctor Who history.
