Today’s Google Doodle marked the 115^th birthday of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart who disappeared in 1937 during her attempt to circumnavigate the globe. Inspirational to women worldwide, she became the first female pilot to fly the Atlantic and her date of birth prompted a Twitter outbreak of her well-versed quotes

@Tara_Moss tweeted her famous utterance, “Never interrupt someone doing something you said couldn’t be done.”

Whilst @ginafairuzh recognised Earhart’s fight for equality: “'Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others.' -Amelia Earhart”

And @timetit broadcasted her oft-repeated line, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers.”

So raise your glass to a brave and daring pilot who overcame society and chased her dreams…

Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson

From a lost hero to two very public villains. When the Crown Prosecution Service announces a grand total of 19 phone hacking charges, you can almost visualise tweeters rubbing their hands together with glee. And the backlash ensues once again… When it comes to phone hackers, apparently anything is fair game:

@thewritertype gives the pair a taste of their own medicine: “Let’s not rush to condemn Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson before they’ve been convicted. That’s a job for tabloid editors.”

Who can resist Prince Charles’s fictional Twitter account’s (@Charles_HRH) use of a decent punning opportunity with, “Rebekah Brooks on the phone. Says she ‘can’t hack it’.”

The PM’s undoubtedly feeling a little foolish right now, as @fieldproducer is quick to point out: “Something tells me David Cameron won’t be sending Rebekah Brooks any ‘LOL’ text messages today…”

And Grumpy Old Man @mrjohnofarrell makes a topical prediction… “Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson to escape jail – Cameron getting G4S to drive them there.”

The landscape of cinema is rife with ill-advised sequels – Grease 2. Dumb and Dumberer, Jaws: The Revenge, to name but a few. So what better use of an afternoon than to suggest a whole load more? The #UnlikelySequel trend rolled into the Twittersphere this afternoon, providing ample amusement for all those stuck in a Tuesday afternoon rut.

You wouldn't catch Meryl Streep in Primani, as @RickBelds rightly points out with “The Devil Wears Primark”.

@ShoesNSnooze’s  “Sleepy in Seattle” sounds less than riveting...

@ThatGuyFrom90s can’t let go of the past: “I Have Not Forgotten That I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”

And finally (and we reckon producers should give this one an outing), @thelovemaster’s “Just when u thought it was safe to go back in the water. He’s back: old, cranky & arthritic – ‘GUMS’”

And finally, Gaga Is Our Inspiration For Living (yes, you heard that right)

It pains Radio Times to have to write about this particular trend, but given its presence in the Twittersphere throughout the ENTIRE day, it merits a degree of mockery.

Firstly @The_Change_666 makes the valid point, “urm I really don’t think this is accurate shes been out for like 4yrs, im sure people been living for longer” Well observed – perhaps similar attention to detail could now be applied to your grammar?

@iMacNathan opts for some gentle scientific goading: “#GagaIsOurInspirationForLiving – actually mine is oxygen” Little Monsters would be advised to adopt his logical thinking…

@wesmac5 goes even further by suggesting, “If you’re ever trying to prove devolution to someone, just show them the worldwide trends on twitter.” Fair point.

And finally, devout Gaga-ite @TomyKMonster proclaims, “Gaga Is Our Inspiration For Living; Because even though we might not see her, she will always be there to support us.” I think we’ll leave you with that profound thought…
