Atonement – 11pm, ITV3

Keira Knightley and James McAvoy’s fledgling romance is torn apart when her 13-year-old sister, Briony, mistakes him for her cousin’s rapist. Fastforward to the Second World War and the lovers find themselves separated once again, living either side of the channel in the hope that one day they will be reunited. Benedict Cumberbatch also stars.

City Slickers – 11:10pm, ITV1

Comedy western starring Billy Crystal as advertising salesman Mitch Robbins who sets off on a cattle-drive holiday with two "city slicker" friends (Daniel Stern and Oscar-winning Jack Palance) to combat their mid-life crises.

The Howling – 11:20pm, ITV4

Comedy horror that will satisfy gore fans and film buffs alike. Whilst recuperating at a remote meditation centre, TV journalist Karen White uncovers a colony of werewolves.

Jindabyne – 11.50pm, BBC2

Gabriel Byrne leads a group of anglers determined to enjoy a weekend of fishing. But after discovering a brutally-murdered aboriginal woman, they fail to report the crime until the end of the trip, much to the disgust of their local community. 

Battle Royale – 12:05am, Film4

Violent futuristic thriller set in Japan. As teenage crime spirals out of control, the government sends a class of schoolchildren to an isolated island, equips them with weapons, and leaves them to reduce their number to a sole survivor. 

The Family Stone – 12:15am, Channel 4

Sarah Jessica Parker is New Yorker Meredith Morton who travels to her boyfriend’s family for Christmas where he’s planning to propose. But she is wholly unprepared for the hostile reception she receives from his family members, especially steely matriarch, Diane Keaton.
