Doctor Who stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill seem to have had a lot of fun during their visit to the annual San Diego Comic-Con convention yesterday, meeting fans, posing for photos and taking part in a number of Doctor Who panels.

Fielding questions from a huge crowd at the Nerd HQ event, Matt Smith was asked which incarnations of the Time Lord he'd like to see involved in a potential "multiple-Doctors" episode (something many fans hope will be part of the show's 50th anniversary celebrations next year). Judging by the noise, his response was one most of those present approved of...

"I think as an event… to get David [Tennant] and Chris [Eccleston] back would be amazing," said Smith, before being temporarily drownded out by the cheering.

"I think it would be very difficult to make happen," he admitted. "But I think that would be really special."

Smith also revealed that if he could make an episode with any version of the Time Lord, living or dead, it would be Patrick Troughton's second Doctor.

"I love Patrick Troughton – I think he’s just marvellous," Smith told the audience. "So I’d like to just look him in the eyes as the Doctor as well."

Questions for the stars ranged far and wide, with one – speculating about a musical collaboration between the trio – eliciting an impromptu rendition of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody (check it out below around the 38-minute mark).

Karen Gillan also shared her terrifying Dalek impression – and attempted to explain how she'd managed to ruin the kitchen counters in a flat she had rented from Doctor Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman (more on that story here).

The whole event was captured on film by TheDoctorWhoMedia – watch the 47-minute video below…
