Captain Kirk should be grateful to his nemesis in the upcoming Star Trek sequel says star Chris Pine - and also to a "fascinating" Benedict Cumberbatch for bringing “smarts” to the role.
"[The movie] is structured so that the antagonist brings out all of the qualities in Kirk that need to happen in order for Kirk to grow," said Pine.
"As you know from Benedict, just watching him, vocally, he's fascinating. He's got this deep resonant voice. He's a fascinating face. He's a lovely guy and just super smart,” added the actor who, as Captain Kirk, will battle Cumberbatch’s as yet unamed Trek villain in the film.
And Pine said Cumberbatch brought something to the role that was not always present in science-fiction foes.
“You want to see something firing in his brain, so he's not just a blood-dripping-from-the-fangs bad guy. Benedict brings those kinds of smarts," Pine told MTV.
