You Only Live Twice – 3:10pm, ITV1

Sean Connery returns for his fifth outing as suave spy James Bond in one of the stronger entries to the series. When a US spaceship is captured, 007 is sent to Japan to investigate.

The Queen – 8:00pm, ITV3

Her Majesty wasn’t always so popular, as Stephen Frears proves in this historical drama about the royal crisis following the death of Princess Diana. Helen Mirren stars as the bereaved monarch, unable to acknowledge the wish of a mourning nation.

Die Hard – 10:00pm, E4

Bruce Willis stars as John McClane, a New York cop whose Christmas is ruined when terrorists storm the office party. Alan Rickman plays the bad guy in this brutal but humorous action thriller that redefined a genre.

Good Night, and Good Luck – 11:30pm, BBC2 

Thought-provoking drama, directed by and starring George Clooney, about the CBS news team’s fight to criticize Joe McCarthy during the communist witch hunts of the early 50s. 

The Girl Next Door – 11:30pm, BBC1

Romantic teen comedy starring Elisha Cuthbert as the promiscuous girl next door with a surprising profession, and Emile Hirsch as the bookish over-achiever who attempts to win her heart.

JFK – 12:00am, Channel 4

Epic historical thriller from Oliver Stone based on one man’s desire to uncover the truth behind the Kennedy assassination.
