Hit ITV1 drama Scott & Bailey will be return for a third series, Suranne Jones has confirmed. “We start filming in November,” she revealed to RadioTimes.com on the red carpet at last night’s Bafta awards.
The second series of the police drama, which came to an end in April, climaxed on a cliffhanger in which Jones’s character Rachel Bailey met her estranged mother. But only she – not the viewers – saw her identity.
“She hasn’t been cast yet, so I don’t know who it’s going to be," Jones said. "But I can scotch the rumour that it’s someone who’s already in the programme. There were tweets flying about that it could be Amelia Bullmore’s character Gill, but it’s definitely not her.”
Jones was joined at the event by her co-star Lesley Sharp, who had nothing but praise for the series co-creator Sally Wainwright: “She’s such an amazing writer and has so many amazing ideas," Sharp told RadioTimes.com. "She gives you some sort of clue about what might happen and then you open the script and none of it’s there and it’s something even better.”
Scott & Bailey was nominated at the Baftas in the Drama Series category, but lost out to supernatural drama The Fades at the ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
