The first trailer for Baz Luhrmann's movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby has been released.
Based on F Scott Fitzgerald's novel, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby alongside Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan, who plays Daisy Buchanan.
The supporting cast features Indian cinema icon Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim, Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson and Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan.
Set in New York in 1922, the plot concerns Midwesterner Nick Carraway's relationship with his wealthy neighbour, the nouveau riche Jay Gatsby, who draws Carraway into a world of lavish parties and fast living.
On the evidence of the visually lavish trailer, it seems director Luhrmann has spared no expense in bringing Fitzgerald's novel to life.
The book has been filmed on a number of occasions, most recently in 1974 with Robert Redford in the title role.
Luhrmann's version, which was shot in Australia, is due out on December 26 and will be released in both 2D and 3D.
