Hermione Norris is to star opposite Martin Clunes in a new two-part ITV drama.
Written by Chris Lang, A Mother’s Son will see the Spooks and Doc Martin stars joined on-screen by former Doctor Who Paul McGann and Alexander Arnold from Skins.
When a teenage schoolgirl is found murdered in the woods near a Suffolk town, the news shocks the whole community, and mother of two Rosie Haleton (Hermione Norris) discovers evidence that her own son may have played a part in the killing.
However, she lives with husband Ben Harley (Martin Clunes) and his two children from a previous marriage, one of whom is also behaving strangely following the murder, and the build-up of secrets and suspicions threatens to tear the family apart.
ITV Studios Executive Producer Myar Craig-Brown said: “Chris Lang has written a beautifully, compelling script and we’re delighted Martin Clunes and Hermione Norris have agreed to play Ben and Rosie.”
ITV Drama commissioner Victoria Fea said: “A Mother’s Son is the story of an ordinary mother tormented by her suspicions and thoughts that her son maybe capable of murder.
“She’s confronted with this terrifying dilemma and has to ask herself should she go to the police and give him up? She’ll wrestle with this throughout what is a very compelling drama.”
A Mother’s Son is currently being filmed on location in London and Suffolk.
