Madagascar – 4.45pm, BBC1

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – 6.35pm, Channel 4

The first instalment of Peter Jackson’s $300-million trilogy sees hobbit Frodo Baggins forced to undertake a heroic trek to destroy the ring of absolute power before it falls into the hands of its evil creator.

The Beach – 9.00pm, E4

Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Richard, an American backpacker who discovers paradise on a Thai island, but the spectacular scenery and melodious community are not enough to preserve the tropical idyll. 


The Proposal – 9.50pm, BBC1

Sandra Bullock plays Margaret Tate, an uptight editor at a New York publishing company who forces her assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds) to marry her when faced with deportation to her native Canada.

Cabaret – 10.35pm, BBC2

Liza Minelli’s iconic role as cabaret singer Sally Bowles who embarks upon a love affair with a naïve young Englishman, set against the rise of Hitler and spread of anti-Semitism amongst the decadent Berlin café society of the 1930s.

Easy Rider –11:10pm, Sky Movies Classics

Cult road movie starring Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper as hippie motorcyclists who take the money from a drug deal to travel across America, collecting alcoholic lawyer George Hansen (Jack Nicholson) along the way.
