Peter Farrelly has announced that he will be making a sequel to the hit 1994 comedy Dumb & Dumber with his brother, Bobby.
18 years after Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels first gave one of the comedy duo performances of the decade as Lloyd and Harry, the pair will be reunited in Dumb & Dumber 2. Production will reportedly begin later this year.
The new film will see Harry and Lloyd in the present day, and will hopefully explain what they’ve been up to since turning down the chance to go on a Hawaiian Tropic Bikini Tour with a coachload of beautiful girls.
But before you get horrible flashbacks to the completely forgettable “prequel”, Dumb & Dumberer, remember that the Farrelly Brothers didn't have anything to do with that movie.
“We didn’t want to do it,” he told the Huffington Post. “The studio said, ‘Hey, we want to make this movie.’ They came to us and asked, ‘Do you want to make a prequel?’ And we said, ‘Absolutely not.’”
Is reviving an 18-year-old story a good idea? Peter Farrelly said before the release of the brothers' latest film, The Three Stooges, that Jim Carrey was the one who finally called up and said he wanted to do it.
With Carrey and Daniels together again, and with the Farrelly Brothers in full support, maybe Dumb & Dumber 2 will remind us why we fell in love with the blundering duo in the first place.
