Something must have gone wrong with our calculations because Michael Copp, the candidate we very scientifically proved without a shadow of a doubt would win this year’s Apprentice, has been fired in week three. Hmmm…

In a task that saw the teams creating their own condiments – and pitted Sterling’s pineapple chutney InFusion against Phoenix’s (slightly) posh ketchup Belissimo (sic) – Michael’s poor sales form and lack of leadership skills on Phoenix’s sub-team made him an easy target in the boardroom, after Sterling booked twice as many orders as their rivals.

The final straw came with Michael’s glaring attempt to appeal to Lord Sugar’s working-class roots. “I wasn’t born with  a silver spoon in my mouth,” he told Sugar, who snapped back, “I don’t care where you come from!” before giving him the finger.

Michael had made an unsure start to the series, being singled out in the first week by Lord Sugar for sweating in the boardroom – something the poor lad explained in last night’s You’re Fired! was a symptom of the onset of gastric flu…
