News presenter Huw Edwards has been confirmed as the main host of the BBC’s coverage across this year’s Diamond Jubilee weekend.

BBC1 Controller Danny Cohen said: “BBC1 brings Britain together for our most significant national moments, and I'm delighted that Huw Edwards will be at the heart of the BBC1 family on these momentous days. Huw is a tremendous broadcaster, loved by viewers right across the UK.”

Huw Edwards added: “We want viewers to enjoy our coverage of the Diamond Jubilee as much as they did last year's royal wedding, and I feel honoured to be included in the BBC's plans.”

Last April, Edwards, 50, presented the BBC coverage of the nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Further details of the spectacular live shows over the first weekend in June - and of additional Diamond Jubilee programming - will be announced in due course.
