Russell Crowe is "in the mix" to star in the remake of 80s sci-fi classic RoboCop, according to Variety reporter Jeff Sneider.
Asked about Crowe's upcoming projects, the Hollywood insider claimed on Twitter: “Russell Crowe, MIGHT star in Aronofsky's NOAH... but do you know what else he MIGHT star in? Three words: Ro. Bo. Cop."
Was he joking? "NO," replied Sneider, IN CAPITALS. “He’s in the mix, but [Noah and RoboCop] shoot at the same time, so who knows?”
Director José Padilha is currently helming the reboot of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 original, about a mortally wounded police officer who becomes the future of law enforcement after he is encased in a prototype robotic suit.
It seems likely that if Crowe is to be involved it will be in the central role of Officer Alex Murphy/RoboCop, first played by Peter Weller.
