The distributors of Charlize Theron’s latest film, Young Adult, have released a new clip of the movie in advance of its theatrical run.

Young Adult stars Theron as recently divorced fiction writer Mavis Gary, who returns to her home in small-town Minnesota hoping to rekindle a romance with an old flame - only to discover that he’s now married and has a newborn baby.

The clip sees Gary presenting her former beau with one of her books as a present for a family member, and excitedly telling him that he is the basis for one of the characters in the novel.

But her excitement soon turns to awkward disdain when her ex’s new wife appears at the front door with the couple’s young child, leaving Mavis virtually speechless and only able to choke out the word ‘adorable’ at the sight of the baby.

Written by Diablo Cody (Juno) and directed by Jason Reitman (Up in the Air), Young Adult will be in cinemas from Friday 3 February.
